Speakers Bio

ROGER MURPHY

I grew up in North London and worked in the Civil Service (Department of Employment) starting as a clerical assistant after leaving school and working latterly as a manager of a Redundancy Payments Office before leaving in 1984 to train as an evangelist with the Church Army.
I am married to Jill and we live in Warwick. We have a married daughter, Carol, who is currently in Auckland, New Zealand with our two grandsons. We also have a married son, Christopher, who is a youth worker at St Andrews, Bebington, on the Wirral.
My hobbies include all kinds of sport, especially watching football (I am a Chelsea fan), reading and walking. Since coming to faith as an adult in London (1978), I have been involved in all kinds of evangelism, especially among men, in both working and middle class areas. In 1986, I was commissioned as a Church Army Captain and for four years worked in and around the North End of Birkenhead as parish evangelist, and latterly also as a Diocesan Adviser in Evangelism.
In 1990, I started working as an Associate Evangelist based in the Liverpool Diocese, and a year later my job was altered to include a half-time allowance to spearhead a local ecumenical project between the Methodists and Anglicans in Huyton, to develop a joint church/community centre.
In 1993, I became a staff evangelist for CPAS (The Church Pastoral Aid Society) based in Leamington Spa. As an itinerant evangelist I have been involved in leading missions, speaking at numerous events and encouraging churches to become engaged in effective evangelism throughout the UK. It has been a privilege to see many people of all ages come to a living faith, and I am committed to the task of evangelism, making Christ known in this country and helping the church move forwards. I am a founder member of the College of Evangelists.
In January 2004 I joined TFM (Through Faith Missions) with Daniel Cozens as an associate evangelist, to continue my work as an itinerant evangelist leading missions around the UK, including the Walks etc. I am working alongside the team at TFM to develop the Evangelists’ Association network across the country, and to help to mentor and train evangelists in the Society of Contemporary Evangelists course.
